Julia Thouas is a curator and designer based in Naarm (Melbourne), having recently completed a Master of Art Curatorship at The University of Melbourne. During her Masters, she undertook curatorial internships at Neon Parc and Lon Gallery. Her interests include rituals, mythology and folklore, investigating the ways that they shape identity and collective memory. She is driven by the ways that folklore and rituals manifest in psychology and modern culture, observing the ways that they can alter the psyche. She also has experience volunteering with various art institutions, including Heide Museum of Modern Art, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA), Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA), and Seventh Gallery.

Curatorial Intern at Lon Gallery

Supported the day-to-day operations of the gallery by coordinating exhibition installations and deinstallations, carefully handling artworks, and ensuring gallery space is organised and presentable. Assisted with administrative tasks including maintaining inventory and exhibition records using Art Galleria, updated databases, and prepared exhibition documents. Provided assistance during openings and closing events for exhibitions.
Curatorial Intern at Neon Parc

Assisted in the setup and take down of exhibitions, including handling artworks, preparing exhibition materials, and maintaining cleanliness and organisation in exhibition spaces. Maintained inventory and exhibition records using Art Logic, updated databases, and prepared exhibition documents. Greeted visitors, provided basic information about current exhibitions or artists, and assisted with gallery openings, previews, and other public events.
Freelance Designer

Created engaging desktop and mobile UI designs for a variety of clients, ensuring seamless user experiences across platforms. I also developed branding materials such as logos and business cards, helping businesses establish a strong visual identity. One of my key projects was designing and building a website for Tava Yoga, which included a fully integrated client booking system, improving accessibility and ease of use. Additionally, I managed and created social media content for Tava Yoga’s Instagram, leading to increased engagement and brand visibility.

Worked on multiple UI/UX design engagements for major clients, including Bactec, Carlton & United Breweries, and Medibank. Using Figma, I developed low-fidelity and high-fidelity wireframes, ensuring user-friendly and visually cohesive designs. I also created detailed user flows and design systems that improved project efficiency and consistency. Collaborating closely with clients, I translated their strategic objectives into compelling digital experiences tailored to their needs.
UI Designer at Immediation

Responsible for the UI design for the Immediation site for desktop and mobile. Designed and implemented a comprehensive and elaborate design system, which increased team productivity and project efficiency. Created user flows to go along with concise, consistent and responsive prototypes in Figma. Worked closely with stakeholders to understand their specific needs and requirements. Collaborated with product owners and developers on all design work and product implementation.
Product Designer at Amused Group & Black Stream

Focused on UX/UI design across various projects, including the full design of the Amused Group website. I developed elegant and functional interfaces that enhanced user navigation and engagement. My work included designing clean and intuitive UI for sports and wagering mobile applications such as Tipex, as well as implementing new features to improve user experience. By aligning visual design with brand identity and target audience expectations, I contributed to an elevated digital presence and improved product usability.

Worked on the UI for the mobile app and desktop site. Designed and implemented responsive layouts to ensure optimal performance on various devices and screen sizes. Created wireframes and prototypes for different devices and screen sizes. Created engaging and informative visuals to help users better understand their finances. This included designing relevant graphs and interactive tools, which were visually appealing and easy to use. As a result this increased user engagement and sign ups. I also created the marketing and promotional content, guided user interviews and conducted competitor research.

Designed Marketing EDMs, web banners and landing pages for Reece and many other campaigns. Collaborated with cross-functional teams on marketing strategies. Worked closely with the marketing team to design landing pages for new product launches and execute successful email campaigns. Created web banners to support Reece Group’s “Join With The Best” campaign, which contributed to a 30% increase in web traffic.
UX/UI Intern at Bolster Group

Conducted UX research for the Linktree site and undertook client research and competitor analysis. Created UI designs for the Linktree admin page and profile themes using Sketch and Adobe Creative Cloud Programs.
